McKay Achieves Toitū Carbon Reduce Certification

As one of Aotearoa’s largest privately owned electrotechnology companies, our teams have long been helping to deliver the infrastructure that supports energy efficiency, renewable generation, energy resilience and the transition to a lower-carbon future.

Achieving Toitū Carbon Reduce certification independently verifies that McKay is actively measuring, managing and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in line with internationally recognised standards.

Highlights from McKay’s certification journey

It began with early emissions analysis, which helped build the foundation for the work that followed.

McKay partnered with Toitū Envirocare and completed the significant task of compiling, validating and auditing two years of emissions data back-to-back.

Our team worked to improve reporting processes, engage with suppliers and strengthen the quality and visibility of sustainability data.

Several initiatives have already contributed to reducing our footprint, including consolidating our electricity supply, introducing electric vehicles into parts of the fleet, improving fleet reporting, working with sustainability-focused suppliers and making practical changes to travel and accommodation choices.

“Receiving confirmation that McKay had achieved certification is a proud moment and reflects the effort, collaboration and persistence of many people across our business,” says Miranda Chetham, McKay’s Transformation & Sustainability Manager

This certification isn’t about ticking a box.  It’s about better understanding our impact, making informed decisions and continuing to improve.  Achieving certification provides the data, credibility and structure to continue building on the good work already happening across the business.

Sustainability at McKay takes a broader view to include our people, the communities we work in, environmental stewardship, and good governance.  We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far and look forward to sharing more as we continue to build on this foundation and strengthening the positive impact our teams deliver every day.
