Women in the Trades

Across New Zealand, the infrastructure and trades sectors are evolving, creating more opportunities than ever to encourage women to see themselves as part of this exciting future. These industries offer a wide range of pathways that not only build valuable skills, but also allow young women to make an important contribution from the very start of their careers.
Events like Girls in Infrastructure provide young women with the opportunity to explore careers in trades and infrastructure, while sparking interest in the diverse and rewarding pathways available across the sector. By learning about exhibitors’ work experiences and career paths, the events are an opportunity to make industry connections and show participants what a career in infrastructure could look like. They also play an important role in connecting young women with mentors and helping address current and future skills shortages.
McKay was proud to support the inaugural Christchurch Girls in Infrastructure event at Addington Raceway, connecting with young women and helping showcase the opportunities available across the infrastructure sector. Representing McKay were Hannah Boyd, Recruitment & Resourcing Specialist; Lisa James, Health, Safety & Environment Advisor; Becky Thompson, South Island Regional Manager; and Louise Burgess, Executive General Manager Business Development and Marketing.
For more than 90 years, McKay has achieved significant milestones and continued to grow by embracing innovation, adopting new technologies, and pushing boundaries across the industry. We’re proud to share our knowledge and experiences, while highlighting the many rewarding career pathways available to young women in infrastructure.
