McKay Strengthens Tauranga Presence to Support Regional Infrastructure Growth

Across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, investment in essential infrastructure continues to shape the future of local communities. Growing populations, expanding urban areas and ongoing upgrades to critical services such as water, wastewater and streetlighting are creating sustained demand for skilled delivery partners across the region.
To support that demand, McKay relocated its Tauranga branch to new, larger premises at 63 Aerodrome Road, Mount Maunganui. The expanded space provides greater operational capacity for the region and reflects the continued growth of McKay’s presence across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato.
Regional Business Manager Elisabeth Smith said the relocation was driven by both current project demand and the need to position the business for future regional growth.
“We’ve seen strong ongoing investment across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions, particularly within essential infrastructure,” said Elisabeth.
“As the scale and complexity of projects continue to grow, it became important for us to invest in a space that better supports our people, our customers and the work being delivered across the region.”
The Mount Maunganui office now serves as a central hub for McKay’s Tauranga operations, providing improved operational capability and support for projects throughout the wider upper North Island.
The branch is also home to several key support roles, further strengthening McKay’s regional capability. Sacha Thomson, who joined McKay as People and Culture Manager in October 2025, is based from Tauranga and provides HR, operational and strategic support across the business, while overseeing industrial and employment relations nationally.
Health and Safety Advisor John Harpi also operates from the Tauranga branch, alongside additional HSQE support, helping ensure McKay continues to maintain strong health, safety and quality outcomes as its workforce and project delivery footprint expand.
The investment highlights McKay’s focus on building capability close to the regions where infrastructure investment is occurring, ensuring teams are well positioned to support customers, projects and communities both now and into the future.
