Morley Road Solar Farm

Lightyears Solar Limited (LYS) is a New Zealand project developer of high-quality, utility-scale solar PV projects, experienced in offshore and NZ solar projects in the areas of site acquisition, project feasibility, development, design, and construction. The 2.3MW Morley Road solar project is located over 3 hectares of farmland in Waiuku south of Auckland.

The Morley Road Solar Farm (MRSF) is a 2.3 MWp ground-mounted solar farm consisting of 2000kW of 1P trackers, 4000 solar panels and 300kW of fixed tilt mounting.

Lightyears Solar engaged McKay to deliver an integrated project solution which included the following scope:

Detailed design for the DC and AC electrical system, including a main switchboard and containerised switch room.
Supply of all AC and DC cables, conduit, solar labelling, and cable support systems
Installation of DC cabling and termination at inverters
Installation of AC cabling and termination at the switchboard
Installation of HV cable and termination
Design and build main switchboard (delivered by McKay Group company MGE)
Manufacture of containerised switch and control room
Design, built, and install the SCADA system for the site

McKay is proud to have been involved in this project, particularly in the engineering design and optimisation of the electrical portion. McKay and Lightyears have formed a partnership to share learnings and experience to ensure the project is a success. Construction has been completed, and commercial operations have begun.

This project demonstrated the value which can be provided by engaging a singular organisation to be a part of early design through to installation and construction.
