Fisher and Paykel Healthcare Building

McKay delivered the electrical for mechanical services (HVAC) for the Fisher and Paykel Healthcare building in East Tamaki under its brand Ward Chandler Electrical Limited. The building accommodates 700 people and comprises of large open plan office space, laboratory and model shop spaces, a controlled air environment manufacturing space, materials warehouse, distribution centre, under-croft carpark and extensive roading with landscaping. The building covers approximately 38,000m2 across a single level with a further 12,000m2 of under-croft carparking.

Our scope of works included:

  • Supply of 10 * MCC panels, manufactured by Lynn Electrical, installed by Ward Chandler Ltd
  • Supply, installation, and commissioning of ABB Variable speed drives
  • All motor connections, wiring, testing, and commissioning

The project was started before the level 4 lock down, which happened during construction. However the building was designed to produce respirators and other medical equipment for the world market, so all personnel on site worked during the lockdown to allow Fisher and Paykel to start production early. The team overcame all obstacles to deliver this project on time to assist the New Zealand Government in it’s response to Covid-19.
