Officially opening in 1967, McKay’s Whangārei branch has a long and proud history that is deeply rooted in the Northland community, where McKay has operated for over 90 years.
Starting with humble beginnings in Dargaville in the 1930s, McKay’s moved to Whangarei during a period of new construction, coincided with the growth of the city following the establishment of the Marsden Point Oil Refinery.
In a strategic decision, shareholders Joe Faithfull, Tom McKay, and Colin Stephens chose to consolidate the business into a single, newly constructed building, having previously operated from three separate sites in Whangarei.
Completed in 1966 by Jeeves Builders, our Whangārei branch has served as McKay’s corporate headquarters ever since, as well as the operational base for our Northland projects, maintenance teams, and engineering division, totalling over 120 skilled electricians, engineers, and line mechanics.
It is here that McKay’s Managing Director, Lindsay Faithfull, along with the Executive Leadership Team and many Division Leaders, oversees all company operations throughout New Zealand.
