Transforming Visions into Ventures with The Pick 2025

Last week marked a significant milestone in the entrepreneurial journey of six passionate individuals with the conclusion of The Pick 2025. The Pick ‘pitch night’ held at Te Iwitahi in Whangārei ended the 10-week business ideas competition, which saw 70 talented participants striving to transform their innovative business ideas into successful ventures.
During the evening, the six finalists presented their ideas to a panel of judges. The energy in the room was palpable as these aspiring entrepreneurs shared their visions with an audience comprised of regional business leaders, councillors, whānau, and supportive locals.
After the judges deliberated, McKay Managing Director, Lindsay Faithfull, proudly took to the stage to present the coveted trophy to Georgia Keys. Her pitch for MAED Innovations, featuring a groundbreaking Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), impressed all and earned her the title of overall winner.
This year’s trophy, created by Jason Povey, featured stylised Pōhutukawa, representative of a fledgling business idea. The roots of the Pōhutukawa are crafted to resemble Kowhaiwhai patterns, symbolising the strong foundations and interconnected growth that are essential for the success of a business.
McKay is delighted to have had the opportunity to continue its role as the Premier Sponsor of The Pick for a second consecutive year. As a company founded in Northland and built on the principles of innovation, drive, and respect, McKay takes pride in supporting initiatives like The Pick that promote local innovation and entrepreneurship in our region.
It was fantastic to see the camaraderie displayed by the Te Tai Tokerau business community, reflecting a shared vision to foster growth in our region.
We wish Georgia and all the participants of The Pick 2025 the very best as they move forward on their journey, towards success.
