McKay Group today announced that the Company has closed on the acquisition of a Downer Tenix branch in Kawerau, Bay Of Plenty.
This branch is now officially included in McKay Group’s line up of operations, all of which provide turn-key solutions to their clients including; electrical engineering and systems integration; automation and control engineering; software engineering and development; electrical contracting; marine electrical; electrical maintenance, mechanical engineering and switchboard design and manufacture.
According to Downer management, Downer reviewed this part of the Tenix business and determined that it did not fit with their core business or growth strategy and therefore decided to sell. Downer recognised that the business unit had great people with exceptional experience and expertise and that they served many of Downer’s existing clients. Downer were eager to ensure that the business was sold to a company that would support and grow the team and capability in Kawerau and provide a seamless service to their clients.
Along with the business unit, McKay has acquired a team of skilled professionals who are electrical and control systems engineers, electricians, instrument technicians, and mechanical fitters and will use the additional resource to provide a unique service offering to a new region.
“The acquisition of the Downer Tenix Kawerau branch, is a win for the local community and the broader Bay of Plenty region”, said Lindsay Faithfull, Managing Director of McKay Group. “The new Kawerau business will continue to provide electrical and control system engineering, instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical fabrication/ fitting services to the major industrial and power generation clients in the central North Island.
