Derecktor Shipyards, MY Cakewalk - 85m Superyacht
Derecktor shipyards required an innovative company to design and produce the electrical system for the 85m vessel MY Cakewalk.
The luxury MY Cakewalk represents the pinnacle of American superyacht construction, being the largest superyacht to be built in the US in modern times. The vessel has accommodation for 14 guests and 26 crew and has an entire deck reserved for the owner’s living space.
Our solution provides a fully integrated package including:
- Full electrical design and documentation.
- Construction and supply of all switchboards, including a fully automated main switchboard.
- Provision of electrical supervisors, to ensure continuity throughout the construction process.
In addition McKay supplied MY Cakewalk with the McKay Integrated Monitoring, Alarm & Control System (MIMACS).
MIMACS uses latest technology software, and hardware to provide the crew with alarms and feedback on virtually every on-board system.
Abu Dhabi – Swift Project
McKay’s experience and expertise are being used to complete the largest superyacht currently under construction in the world. The vessel is an ex-navy frigate, which is being converted into a luxury ‘megayacht’ over 140m long.
A project of this size requires an experienced team of project managers, planners, and electrical supervisors. McKay met these requirements by sending at a team of over 20 staff members to live in Abu Dhabi for the duration of the project.
Our work on this project includes; planning, coordinating and installation of electrical equipment and cables. McKay personnel are electrical supervisors, each supervising teams of 5-10 locally sourced employees.
Project SY Hemisphere
One of McKay’s 2010 prestige projects is the sailing catamaran SY Hemisphere, which is being completed at Pendennis Shipyards in the UK.
At 44m long SY Hemisphere will be largest luxury sailing catamaran in the world. Equipped with the latest toys and bespoke accommodation spaces, she will ensure her owner can travel the world in comfort and style.
McKay is providing electrical design and engineering support, as well as switchboards, and motor control centres. Electrical equipment is designed and built by McKay in New Zealand, then shipped to the vessel for installation.
