McKay’s capabilities and skills have been influenced by the industrialisation of the Northland region of New Zealand. Consequently skills and expertise have been built up in the dairy, petrochemical, timber and infrastructure sectors. The developed skill base enabled McKay to win infrastructure projects throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific with particular emphasis on aviation and diesel power generation.

In the last decade McKay has diversified further into term maintenance contracts and has a number of term contracts in water treatment, street lighting, correctional facilities, and for the Royal New Zealand Navy Patrol Vessels. 

The northern area of New Zealand has long had a strong marine sector, and the same period has also seen McKay build up a strong reputation for marine work in New Zealand and internationally.
